Regarding Ceasefire In Gaza, Canada Supports Biden
JAKARTA - Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reiterated that Canada had called for an immediate ceasefire, increased unbarreled humanitarian aid immediately, and the release of all hostages.
Friday, May 31, Justisn Trudeau voiced support for the ceasefire roadmap and the release of hostages in the Gaza Strip announced by US President Joe Biden.
"The proposal proposed by @POTUS is an opportunity to end suffering and the return of peace. All parties must take advantage of it," the Canadian Prime Minister wrote on X, referring to the US President.
Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly said the level of suffering from the Israeli-Hamas conflict was devastating and had to end.
"Canada has called for an immediate ceasefire for months - violence must be stopped. Hostage must be released and Hamas must lay down its arms," he also wrote on X quoted from ANTARA, Saturday, June 1.
"None-stop humanitarian aid must be given to Palestinian civilians. Canada fully supports the proposal submitted by @POTUS today. The proposal must be accepted. All parties must take advantage of this opportunity to end the suffering of citizens and build a path to a two-state solution," Joly wrote.
Biden previously said that Israel offered the Hamas group a three-phase deal that would end hostilities in the Gaza Strip and secure the release of hostages that were seized in the coastal enclave.
US President appealed to Hamas to accept the deal and urged PM Benjamin Netanyahu to avoid pressure from members of his government's coalition opposing the plan.
More than 36 thousand Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since Israel began its attack nearly eight months ago. Most of the dead were women and children, with more than 82 thousand others injured, according to local health authorities. Meanwhile, Hamas attacks on October 7 killed about 1,200 people.
Most of Gaza's territory was destroyed amid an Israeli blockade crippling access to food, clean water and medicines.
Israel is accused of committing genocide at the International Court, which in its latest ruling ordered Tel Aviv to immediately stop its operations in Rafah, in which more than 1 million Palestinians seek protection from war.
