M 5.3 Earthquake In Malang, BPBD: No Damage Reports Yet In Jember And Lumajang
JEMBER - Some residents in Jember and Lumajang Regencies felt the tremors of the 5.3 magnitude earthquake with the epicenter of the earthquake in the sea 127 kilometers southeast of Malang Regency, East Java on Tuesday, May 21 at 02.42 WIB. "It is true that the Malang earthquake was felt by some residents in Jember. I myself myself have also felt the earthquake shock," said Head of the Jember Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Widodo Julianto, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday morning. He said that his party was still monitoring the impact of the Malang earthquake, especially in the southern coastal area because usually earthquake shocks felt stronger in the southern coastal area of Jember. "Until now there have been no reports of damage, but we are still monitoring the field whether there is an impact due to the earthquake. Hopefully it is safe and controlled," he said. Meanwhile, the Head of BPBD Lumajang Patria Dwi Hastiadi confirmed that the earthquake centered in Malang was felt by some residents in Lumajang Regency. "So far, there have been no reports of damage due to the Malang earthquake because Lumajang residents only felt earthquake vibrations for a moment, but we are still monitoring the impact of the earthquake," he said. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) through its official website stated that an earthquake with an earthquake at sea 127 kilometers southeast of Malang Regency on Tuesday at 02.42 WIB.
