Smugglers Of Hundreds Of Dogs In Trucks Destination For Central Java Sued 1.5 Years In Prison
The Public Prosecutor (JPU) has demanded that Donal Hariyanto, the perpetrator of smuggling hundreds of dogs from West Java to Central Java, be sentenced to 1.5 years in prison.
Prosecutor Supinto Priyono in the trial also demanded that the defendant pay a fine of Rp250 million which if not paid will be replaced with imprisonment for two months.
"To declare the defendant guilty of violating Article 89 paragraph 2 of Law Number 41 of 2014 concerning Animal Husbandry and Health," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, May 16.
He explained that the defendant was proven to have inserted animals into areas that were free of animal disease from infected areas or suspected of being infected.
In his consideration, he continued, the defendant's act of smuggling 180 dogs without legal documents to the Central Java region violated the laws and regulations.
In addition to the defendant Donal Hariyanto, the prosecutor also charged four other perpetrators in this case with a sentence of one year in prison.
The other four perpetrators, Ariyoto, Wagiman, Sulasno, and Ervan Yuliantu, were crew members of the truck that the defendant Donal Hariyanto paid to send hundreds of dogs.

For these demands, Chief Judge Judi Prasetya gave the defendants the opportunity to present their defense at the upcoming trial.
Semarang Police previously secured trucks carrying hundreds of dogs brought from West Java to several areas in Central Java on January 6, 2024.
The illegal dog transport truck was caught while leaving at the Kalikangkung Semarang toll gate.
