Residents Asked To Beware Of Mount Ile Lewotolok's Delicacy Ash

The Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources appealed to the public to be aware of the dangers of volcanic ash from Mount Ile Lewotolok in Lembata, East Nusa Tenggara.

"Use a mask or mouth shield, nose, and eye to avoid health problems due to volcanic ash," said Head of the Ile Lewotolok Volcano Observation Post Jeffry Pugel as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, May 16.

He conveyed this because the volcanic activity from Mount Ile Lewotolok is currently dominated by gusts.

According to him, gust earthquakes are generally related to the exit of gas to the surface. The gas in question is volcanic gas which is of course dangerous for humans.

"We recommend using a protector to protect the eyes, nose, mouth, and skin," he said.

Mount Ile Lewotolok is a volcano in NTT which is at level III or Alert.

This active volcano experienced 428 earthquake gusts on May 15, 2024.

Meanwhile, from 00: 00-12: 00 WITA, today there have been 211 gusts.

The Geological Agency still recommends that people, tourists, and visitors do not enter and do not carry out activities within a 2 km radius of the volcanic activity center.

Similar recommendations were also given so as not to carry out activities within the southern, southeast, and western sectoral areas as far as 3 km from the center of mountain activity.

"Be aware of the potential danger of avalanches or lava avalanches from the western tip," he warned.
