Minister Trenggono Wants Indonesia To Become A Champion Of Lobster Power In The Next 30 Years
JAKARTA - Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KP) Sakti Wahyu Trenggono hopes that Indonesia can become the winner or "champion" of lobster cultivation within the next 30 years.
Even though the time period looks quite short, Minister Trenggono is still optimistic that this can be achieved later.
"We must be able to become champions of lobster cultivation or we must be champions in cultivation of 5 strategic commodities in the next 10.15.20 or 30 years," Trenggono said at a press conference at his office, quoted Thursday, May 16.
Trenggono also gave an example, like Norway which managed to cultivate salmon. He said, although Norway took 50 years to successfully cultivate salmon.
However, thanks to the patience of the country, they have now managed to reap a potential valuation of up to tens of billions.
Thus, Trenggono also hopes that this success can be realized in lobster cultivation in the country.
"We have to be very strong heroes and producers in 5 commodity sectors, namely shrimp, lobsters, crabs, tilapia and seaweed. Because the five live in Indonesia," he said.

One of the steps that the government is taking, in this case, is the KKP to start a roadmap in lobster cultivation, namely opening the lobster seed export market to Vietnam with a cooperation scheme.
The cooperation scheme in question is that if Vietnam wants to get lobster clear seeds (BBL) from Indonesia, it must first invest lobster cultivation in Indonesia.
On the other hand, the KKP has also launched Project Management Office 724 (PMO-724) to strengthen solidity within the KKP and coordination with various ministries and institutions to oversee the policy of transforming lobster governance.
"All of these efforts were made to strengthen Indonesia's position in the global supply chain of lobsters and lobster cultivation is growing. Thus, this BBL resource brings benefits to the community," he added.
