BPBD Assessment Zero Earthquake Damage M 5.5, Mataram City Government Invites Affected Residents To Report

NTB - The Mataram City Government has yet to receive a report from residents regarding the impact of the 5.5 magnitude (M) earthquake that occurred on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 afternoon.

Assistant I for Government Administration and People's Welfare of the Mataram City Secretariat H Lalu Martawang said, from an assessment conducted by the Mataram City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) so far there has been no damage to residents' houses due to the earthquake.

"Until today, there have been no reports of residents affected by the M 5.5 earthquake yesterday and hopefully there will never be any," he said in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province, Wednesday, May 15, which was confiscated by Antara.

Hal tersebut sekaligus menjawab bahwa adanya indikasi kerusakan di Kantor Lurah Mayura, Kecamatan Cakranegara, akibat gempa bumi.

"We have confirmed it to the kelurahan and they stated that there was no damage like information spread," he said.

Thus, Martawang, who is also with the Head of BPBD Mataram City Mahfuddin Noor, said that so far Mataram City was still safe from the impact of the earthquake.

He said, from the information that the damage only occurred in North Lombok Regency (KLU) which was the epicenter of the earthquake or about 22 kilometers from Mataram City.

The damage was in the form of a kitchen in the KLU whose condition was already fragile and there were residents who were injured due to falling due to panic when they wanted to save themselves.

"Meanwhile, Mataram City is still safe from the impact of the earthquake," he said.

Nevertheless, the Mataram City Government asked residents to remain calm and alert to potential aftershocks.

The community is also expected to be able to follow and take steps to mitigate earthquake disasters that have been socialized by BPBD in accordance with procedures.

For example, when an earthquake occurs, people have to be calm and look for the main building poles around when they are in a room to take cover and when the earthquake begins to subside, then people go to a safer place or a gathering point.

"If at the time of the earthquake we panic, it could potentially harm ourselves because we could fall or hit something like glass or something else," said Martawang.
