AI Startup Anthropic Launches Claude Chatbot Across Europe

JAKARTA - Anthropic artificial intelligence (AI) startup, backed by Google (Alphabet) and Amazon.com, announced its generative AI chatbot Claude, across Europe on Tuesday, May 14.

Claude of Anthropic is a direct competitor to OpenAI's ChatGPT backed by Microsoft, a record-breaking chatbot with up to 100 million monthly active users just two months after launch. Although Claude's chatbot is free in some countries, this is the first time it has been available on the web and iPhone across the European Union, as well as several non-EU countries in Europe such as Switzerland and Iceland.

Business customers in Europe will also be able to access the "Team Team" package which will cost 28 euros (Rp487,000) per month before a value added tax.

Anthropic was founded by former OpenAI executives and Dario and Daniela Amodei's siblings. Earlier this month, the company entered competition to gain corporate customers by launching its chatbot version aimed at business. This move could lead Anthropic to compete with its supporters, Amazon and Google, who also want to attract business spending on AI.

"Millions of people around the world are already using Claude to speed up scientific processes, improve customer service, or perfect their writing. I look forward to what people and businesses around Europe will create with Claude," said Dario Amodoi, CEO and co-founder of Anthropic.
