Foreigners Smuggled Into Australia By Pretending To Be Fishermen

The Directorate General of Marine and Fishery Resources Supervision (PSDKP) of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries revealed that the modus operandi of foreign nationals who wanted to be smuggled into Australia pretended to be fishermen in order to escape to the destination country.

"So they have the modus operandi of pretending to be fishermen, then crossing using fishing vessels to the Australian state," said Acting Director General of Marine and Fishery Resources Supervision Dr. Pung Nugroho Saksono as reported by ANTARA, Monday, May 13.

This was conveyed by Pung Nugroho during a press conference at the NTT Police Headquarters regarding the arrests of six Chinese foreigners and six Indonesian citizens who wanted to smuggle Chinese citizens through Kupang waters, NTT.

Pung Nugroho explained that the foreigners were willing to buy fishing boats at high prices so that they could be seen as fishermen looking for fish or catching sea cucumbers. Whereas originally they are foreigners who want to go to Australia.

"Actually, this was revealed after we interrogated several fishermen in Jakarta some time ago and they admitted to committing the crime of Pepeplesmugling," he said.

Cases of human smuggling such as the case of Chinese foreigners going to Australia have long been a serious concern from the KKP so that several patrol boats were deployed to monitor the waters of NTT, which is often the route for foreigners to Australia.

Currently, KKP has two large patrol boats that can be used to patrol eastern Indonesia's waters, including NTT. The ships are the Orca 5 Ship and the Tiger Patrol 3 Ship from the headquarters with large capacities.

Meanwhile, there are three ships managed by Kupang Kupang, namely the Tiger Shark 3, Blue Shark 05, and Napoleon. The Hiru Biru 05 ship is a ship that managed to capture five foreigners who want to be smuggled into Australia.

The disclosure and arrest will be a role model to continue to increase cooperation between the KKP and related parties, such as the NTT Regional Police, Lantamal VII, Bakamla, and other parties to prevent cases of human smuggling.
