Nila Production In Karawang Targeted To Reach 10,000 Tons Per Year

JAKARTA - Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono targets the Modeling of Nila Salin Fish Cultivation in Kawarang, West Java, to produce 10,000 tons of fish per year.

"The hope is that the production will be 1 year 10,000 tons, because one cycle is eight months so that 1 year is approximately 10,000 tons," Trenggono said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, May 8.

The President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has just inaugurated the Modeling of the Salin Nila Fish cultivation in Karawang, West Java, today.

This modeling is the result of the revitalization of the 80 hectare shrimp pond area which is no longer used. The work on the pond has been carried out since 2023 and has now received the harvest.

Trenggono said, specifically for the cultivation of copy tilapia fish in Karawang, it is hoped that it will weigh approximately 1 kilogram. According to him, this aims to produce it for fillets or meat without bones and scales.

Production from tilapia copy Karawang fish, 90 percent to meet local market needs, where currently it reaches 1.3 million tons per year.

Furthermore, Trenggono said, the tilapia fish market in Indonesia is quite large, even for cultivation in Karawang already has offtakers or harvest buyers.

Therefore, the use of pond land along the North Coast of Java must continue to be added, where the total number of ponds that can be used is 78,000 hectares. According to Trenggono, tilapia cultivation is able to grow significant economic growth.

"There are further processing, there are many industries, they can be filtered. This is upstream, after it becomes in the form of tailing it can enter downstream, of course it will cause a multiplier effect," said Trenggono.
