Coordinating Minister For Political, Legal And Security Affairs Discuss Defense Cooperation With Australia

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Hadi Tjahjanto discussed opportunities for cooperation in the field of defense, countering terrorism and securing the maritime area with Australian Interior Minister The Honorable Clare O'Neil, MP at the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs office, Jakarta.

The meeting was Hadi's first face-to-face meeting with Clare O'Neil representing their respective countries.

"This reflects the strong bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as the important meaning of Indonesia for Australia," Hadi said in an official press release from the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, May 8.

Hadi explained that cooperation in the defense sector is very important in order to strengthen the security and military forces of each country.

This cooperation can be carried out by exchanging troops to joint exercises between military units. With the strong military line of the two countries, Hadi believes foreign attacks or terrorism can be easily countered.

Cooperation in the field of cyber security, continued Hadi, is also important to do to avoid state data leaking to other parties.

Not only that, the two figures also discussed the plan for the 10th Indonesia-Australia Ministerial Council Meeting on Law and Security (MCM).

In addition, Hadi also discussed plans for the 5th Sub-Regional Meeting on Counter Terrorism and Transnational Security (SRM) meeting in 2024 in Indonesia.

"The meeting was to discuss several issues, including countering terrorism and cross-border crimes," said Hadi.

Hadi believes that the series of planned activities will further strengthen relations between Indonesia and Australia. Thus, cooperation in the field of defense between the two countries will also run well.
