Vice President Encourages Media To Improve Quality, Don't Just Pursue Ratings
JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin asked that efforts to pursue ratings in the media industry must also be accompanied by an increase in the quality of broadcasting content.
"I understand the industry's need for ratings, which is one of the main indicators of the success of a broadcast program. However, efforts to pursue ratings must also be accompanied by an increase in the quality of broadcast content," said the Vice President giving a speech at the 2024 Syiar Ramadhan Award (ASR) monitored online in Jakarta, Wednesday, May 8, which was confiscated by Antara.
The event was the result of the collaboration between the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) and the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) and the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag). The theme of ASR 2024, namely "Merajut Persatuan Through the Cooling Broadcast of Ramadan".
The Vice President hopes that the content submitted is not only entertaining, but also educating, can be accounted for, upholds applicable norms, and is full of values of tolerance to maintain national unity and integrity.
In his remarks, the Vice President also highlighted that broadcasting media are increasingly required to adapt to the times. Conventional-based broadcasting has begun to turn digital, as institutional-based broadcasting is now starting to penetrate the personal realm.
"Therefore, I see the need for updating arrangements related to broadcasting, especially in order to include digital broadcasting and social media," he said.
According to the Vice President, regulatory adjustments are needed to remain relevant to the current situation, as well as a solid guideline to anticipate challenges in the future. It is also important to ensure protection for the community.
"In addition, at this time we can observe that some people still do not fully understand digital rules and ethics. For that, I ask the media to contribute to increasing digital literacy in the community," said the Vice President.

Closing his remarks, the Vice President also appreciated KPI's efforts to improve broadcast quality for Indonesian consumption.
"I encourage KPI to continue to increase its capacity, especially as the frontline that oversees and oversees broadcasting in the country," said the Vice President.
Previously, the Head of the Ubaidillah Central KPI conveyed that the 2024 ASR activity which had been carried out since 2012 had the spirit to appreciate broadcasting programs that were committed to disseminating virtue and wisdom and religious moderation.
The hope is that this appreciation can also trigger other programs to provide quality content to the public.
