Accidents Rise At The Train Door Cross, Ministry Of Home Affairs Involves PUPR-Kemendagri-KNKT Related To Prevention

The Directorate General of Regional Administration of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) signed a memorandum of understanding related to the safety of a railroad and road crossing in Bandung, West Java (West Java), Saturday, May 4.

The signing involves the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub), the Ministry of PUPR, the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT), the Ministry of Education and Culture, and the Attorney General's Office to integrate stakeholders.

"It is necessary to have a cooperation agreement as a shared responsibility to improve the security and safety of railroad and road crossings," said Plh. He said the accident rate at level crossings from 2023 to March 2024 reached 414 cases with 124 deaths, 87 serious injuries, and 110 minor injuries.

During that period, 1,514 crossings were guarded and 2,556 others were not, and 157 crossings were closed.

Therefore, he said, a meeting to discuss cooperation agreements in Bandung would explore issues for coordination with ministries/agencies.

This is a follow-up to the Memorandum of Understanding on Synergy of Tasks and Functions in Increasing Security and Safety of Level Crossings between Railways and Roads.

The discussion of the draft cooperation agreement was attended by dozens of participants from various agencies with speakers from the Directorate of Railway Safety, Directorate General of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation, and the West Java Provincial Transportation Service.

This activity, which was held face-to-face, gathered information through discussions led by the Head of Sub-Directorate for the Special Region of Yogi Endra Permana by collecting input from regencies/cities throughout West Java consisting of transportation services and bappeda related to crossings in the field of railways and roads.
