Trenggono Targets Copy Nila Production In Karawang To Reach 10,000 Tons Per Year

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) targets the harvest of copy tilapia fish at a pond covering an area of 80 hectares (ha) at the Aquaculture Production Business Service Center (BLUPPB) Karawang to reach 10,000 tons per year.

It is known, the copy tilapia harvest cycle takes up to eight months.

"We are targeting that in the future the production will be 1 year 10,000 tons with a weight of no less than 1 kilogram (kg) so that it can be filtered," said KKP Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono in a written statement, Wednesday, May 8.

On the other hand, his party will take advantage of the potential for a pond area of 78,000 ha in the Pantura area to become a copy of the tilapia pond.

The land used for shrimp ponds that do not function or idle is predicted to be able to produce 4 million tons of tilapia fish per cycle.

Trenggono said that his party would invite the industry to work together to utilize the tilapia copy fish harvest. Because currently, tilapia fish ponds are widely managed on a small scale with a harvest of around 1.3 million tons. As much as 90 percent of the harvest is allocated for local interests.

"Because in terms of productivity, tilapia copy cultivation is much more productive with the production of 87.75 tons per hectare per year, compared to traditional shrimp ponds of 0.6 tons per hectare per year," he said.

The global value of the tilapia market is very promising. In 2024, the market value of this commodity is projected to reach 14.46 billion US dollars. This figure is predicted to reach 23.02 billion US dollars higher in 2034.

Its export destination countries will also vary in 2023, covering the United States of USD 849 million, Mexico USD 152 million, European Union USD 130 million, Middle East USD 128 million to Ivory Coast worth USD 73 million.

"The harvest will be further processed into processed products for fillet fish with the purpose of exporting and of course there is an industry. Therefore, we also present industry players," he said.

For your information, the modeling of tilapia copy cultivation is Trenggono's breakthrough which has been built since 2023 with an area of 80 ha. The pond area at BLUPPB Karawang is divided into four areas, namely ponds block A, B, C and D.

Copy tilapia fish cultivation, which was built at a cost of up to Rp 76 billion, is now managed by BLUPPB. At that location, there are production ponds, Wastewater Management Installations (IPAL), outlet inlets, reservoirs to laboratories.

The production process has also prioritized the latest technology, one of which is the use of automatic feed machines.

In the future, modeling productivity is expected to reach around 7,020 tons per cycle or equivalent to Rp. 210.6 billion, assuming the selling price of tilapia fish copies Rp. 30,000 per kg. From the assumption of economic calculations with a production cost of Rp. 24,500 per kg, modeling will generate a profit of around Rp. 38.6 billion.
