The IPad Market Decreased Due To The Development Of Android Tablets

JAKARTA The use of tablets has been popular for a decade, even Advan tablets have gone viral in Indonesia around 2013. Although it was popular, Android tablets have not been able to compete with the iPad. The demand for Android tablets continues to decline due to the sophistication of the iPad, but this has begun to change. Over the past few years, Android tablets have experienced significant developments so that people began to be interested in tablets other than the iPad. Recent reports from the International Data Corporation (IDC), marketing research institutes, show that demand for Android tablets around the world outperforms sales of the iPad. In the first quarter of 2024, the total shipments reached 30.8 million units. As the demand for Android tablets increased, the market share of the iPad also experienced a decline. Between the first quarter of last year to the first quarter of this year, the iPad market fell from 35.2 percent to 32 percent. The number of decreased units reached one million. It seems that this declining sales is not only affected by the growing Android tablets, but also because of the latest models of the iPad that have not yet emerged. Despite the decline, Apple tablets still occupy the first position with 9.9 million sales. In second position, Samsung pursued Apple with the number of tablet shipments reaching 6.7 million units in the first quarter of this year. This sales amount apparently fell from the last quarter because competing brands were increasingly promoting in Europe and Asia Pacific.

Apart from Samsung, sales of other high Android tablets are occupied by Huawei, Lenovo, and Xiaomi. Each of these companies managed to increase delivery of Android-based tablets to 9.4 percent, 7 percent, and 5.9 percent. The tablet market is globally still moving stagnantly with an increase of up to 200,000 units. Of the total sales of tablets globally, more shipments are made by Android tablet developers such as Huawei, Lenovo, and others. Apple will launch the latest iPad through the Let Loose event. For now, it is not yet estimated whether the latest generation iPad is able to boost market demand. If successful, Apple can maintain its position in the first place of tablet sales.
