ASEAN's Digital Economy Can Break 2 Trillions US Dollars In 2030
JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Trade Jerry Sambuaga projects that the value of the ASEAN digital economy will double to 2 trillion US dollars by 2030.
This was conveyed by Jerry after accompanying the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto to meet with Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the Ministerial Meeting of Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris, France.
Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, has an agenda going forward to grow the digital economy. This sector can double its value to 2 trillion US dollars by 2030," Jerry said in an official statement, Monday, May 6.
He added that Indonesia is currently deepening cooperation with Brazil in priority fields. One of them is the digital economy.
The value offers significant opportunities for collaboration and growth. The digital economy is one of the priorities in Indonesia-Brazil cooperation," continued Jerry.
Jerry said, Indonesia and Brazil can increase activities in digital technology and innovation cooperation.
Moreover, as Chair of the ASEAN 2023, Indonesia has also received an agreement to develop the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA) to advance digitalization and interoperability.
"As a vast trade country, Indonesia not only has economic interests, but also a commitment to maintain regulation-based multilateral trade and investment, fair competition, and an inclusive and resilient global partnership," he said.

Jerry believes that strong relations with Brazil are the key to building good relations between Indonesia and Brazil, especially economic cooperation.

Jerry said Indonesia also expressed encouragement over the Brazilian G20 Presidency this year.
Meanwhile, Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira also expressed support for Indonesia's access to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
