Husband Abused Pregnant Wife In Malang Because Of Jealousy The Contents Of Chat Threatened With 10 Years In Prison

A husband who is a perpetrator of Domestic Violence (KDRT) with the initials MRR (23), a resident of Jalan Muharto, Malang City, East Java, is threatened with 10 years in prison for committing violence against his wife who is four months pregnant.

Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Malang City Police, Kompol Danang Yudanto, said that the perpetrator was charged with Article 44 paragraph (1) and/or Article 44 paragraph (2) of Law No. 23 of 2004 concerning the Elimination of Domestic Violence.

"The perpetrator committed violence against the wife with the initials DEF (23) who was four months pregnant. The perpetrator is threatened with a maximum imprisonment of 10 years," said Danang as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, May 6.

Danang explained that the domestic violence that caused the victim to suffer a number of injuries from sharp weapons, including the bruises, occurred on April 26, 2024. The couple only got married in December 2023.

According to him, the motive for the suspect to commit violence against his wife who was pregnant began when the suspect found a conversation between his wife and an old friend.

The perpetrator asked the victim and got emotional and abused the victim. The perpetrator used a broom handle to a sharp weapon to commit violence against the victim.

"The victim held with his hand, finally the victim's hand was torn due to the sharp weapon used," he said.

At the time of the incident, he continued, the family tried to intervene and stop the perpetrator's behavior. However, the family could not stop the violence committed by the suspect against the pregnant wife.

"People who knew about the incident then reported. Officers went to the location and arrested the perpetrators and evacuated the victims for medical treatment," he said.

Currently, the victim is still receiving treatment at the Saiful Anwar Regional General Hospital (RSUD) Malang City. The fetus carried by the victim, reportedly in normal and healthy condition, while the victim is still recovering.

He appealed to the public to report to the police if they knew of a criminal act, including domestic violence. The police guarantee the security of the reporters and will immediately arrest the perpetrators of the crime.

"When there is a crime, it is the obligation to report it. If someone threatens, report it too, people don't be afraid. We will arrest them, including threatening people," he said.

In that incident, officers confiscated a number of evidences in the form of sharp weapons and a broom used by the suspect to persecute the victim. Currently, the suspect is being held at the Malang City Police detention center.
