Two Seasons Of Disappointment, LA Lakers Officially Fire Coach Darvin Ham

JAKARTA - The NBA team, LA Lakers officially fired the coach, Darvin Ham. A record of 90 wins and 74 losses over two seasons is the reason to revoke coach Darvin's status.

"We really appreciate Darvin Ham's efforts on behalf of the Lakers and acknowledge the many achievements achieved over the past two seasons including last year's extraordinary achievements to the Western Region final," saidBasketball Vice President Operations and Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka in an official statement as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, May 4.

"We all want to thank Darvin for his dedication and positive attitude. Even though this is a difficult decision to make, it is the best action after reviewing the whole season. This organization will remain steadfast in its commitment to present championship multi-time basketball to Lakers fans around the world," he said again.

The Lakers went through Darvin Ham's coaching by reaching two playoffs in the 2023 and 2024 seasons. In the 2023 playoffs, Ham led the Lakers to the finals of the Western Region and the Lakers also won Tournaments in the Season of the same year.

But the Lakers were knocked out in the first round of play this year by Denver Nugets with a score of 4-1. Over two seasons qualifying for the playoffs, the Lakers had to fight first in the play-in.

The Los Angeles Lakers are actually always leading the first round of the playoffs against Nuggets. But they always missed at the end of the game even though they were originally able to control the game.

What's more, the Lakers suffered 11 consecutive defeats to Nuggets and were only able to win once out of a total of 13 meetings with Nuggets since December 2022.

The Lakers' failure this season has hurt because the duo stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis are in good shape throughout the year. The two stars played more games than they did in the NBA season since 2017-2018, which was 76 games for Davis and 71 games for James who are also the top scorers in NBA history.

The fitness of the players and success was only translated into an increase of four wins in the final 2024 standings compared to last season.

Darvin Ham also often receives criticism from fans and observers for his game management, slow tactical adjustments, and reluctance to change the rotation of players and their line-up.
