May Day 2024 Demo: Harmonious Red Light To Merdeka Barat Closed, Avoid Paths To Monas
The Central Jakarta Metro Police (Jakpus) appealed to people who will cross the area around the National Monument (Monas) or the intersection of the Arjuna Wijaya Statue to find alternative ways given the demonstration to commemorate May Day 2024.
"In order to consider finding alternative ways to avoid congestion because there will be workers and elements of society who will express their opinions at the Horse Statue and at GBK," said Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Pol Susatyo Purnomo Condro in Jakarta, Wednesday, May 1, which was confiscated by Antara. Susatyo said the police carried out traffic engineering (traffic) including closing the Harmoni red light area which led to Jalan Merdeka Barat and diverting the route to Jalan Kesehatan. "We will close the Medan Merdeka Barat in front of the Sapta Pesona Building," he said. In addition, the closure was also carried out at Jalan Perwira which leads to Jalan Medan Merdeka Utara and diverts to the Istiqlal Mosque and the Banteng field.
The police chief then said that the National Police together with the TNI, Pol PP, Damkar and Dishub were ready to provide security and facilitate the implementation of public opinion delivery activities on the commemoration of International Labor Day (Mmen) around Monas and Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) today. "We have deployed 3,412 joint TNI personnel, Polri assisted by Pol PP, Damkar and Dishub who will later be divided into several security points around Monas and GBK," he said.
