KPK Waits For Cassation Decision Files To Drag Mimika Regent Again In Church Construction Corruption Cases

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has not received a cassation decision file from the Supreme Court (MA) to drag Mimika Regent Eltinus Omaleng into alleged corruption in the construction of the Kingmi Mile 32 church.

Head of the KPK News Section Ali Fikri said he had checked. However, until now no files have been sent regarding the decision.

It is known that the Supreme Court granted the KPK cassation with number 523 K/Pid.sus/2024 through trial on April 24. Eltinus was judged by the panel of judges to legally violate Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 of Law Number 31 concerning the Eradication of Corruption in conjunction with Article 55 Paragraph (1) 1st of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 64 Paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code.

This decision changed the decision of the Makassar District Court (PN) which had released Eltinus from all prosecutors' demands at the KPK.

"We have checked, so far we have not received (the cassation decision, ed)," Ali told reporters, Monday, April 29.

Ali hopes that the Supreme Court will immediately provide a copy of the cassation to Eltinus. The file is needed by the KPK to execute the regent because they have to read the whole thing first.

"Maybe it's still at the Makassar District Court. (We, ed) don't know (the whole sentence," he said.

In this case, the Supreme Court sentenced Eltinus to two years in prison. He was also sentenced to a sentence of Rp. 200 million, a subsidiary of two months in prison.

The corruption case in the construction of the church cost the state up to Rp14.2 billion.
