AP II Supports International Airport Arrangement

JAKARTA - President Director of Angkasa Pura II Agus Wialdi said his party supports the arrangement of international airports through Ministerial Decree Number 31 of 2024 concerning the Determination of International Airports because it is considered to be able to strengthen the national aviation sector.

"PT Angkasa Pura II, the manager of 20 airports in Indonesia, supports the arrangement of airports by the Ministry of Transportation," Agus said in a statement in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Monday, April 29.

He said the 17 airports set by the Ministry of Transportation as international airports would become international flight hubs. Then, these international airports are connected to domestic flight networks with other domestic airports.

According to Agus, the arrangement made by the Ministry of Transportation will further strengthen Indonesia's flight connectivity.

Agus further said that AP II as the manager of 20 airports will focus on developing integrated flight routes between international routes and domestic routes in accordance with KM 31/2024 and still prioritize the safety, security, service and fulfillment of all regulations.

"This airport arrangement has a positive impact, where flight routes in Indonesia are increasingly organized which will then also encourage growth in domestic tourism and the national economy," said Agus.

Agus added seven AP II airports that were included in the international list, namely Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport, Kualanamu, Minangkabau, Sultan Syarif Kasim II, Soekarno-Hatta, Halim Perdanakusuma, and Kertajati Airport.

"In line with this, AP II and airlines coordinate in developing flight routes according to Ministerial Decree Number 31 of 2024," said Agus.

Previously, the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) had issued Ministerial Decree Number 31 of 2024 (KM 31/2004) concerning the Determination of International Airports on April 2, 2024. The KM has designated 17 airports in Indonesia with international airport status, from 34 international airports.

"The purpose of this determination in general is to be able to encourage the national aviation sector which had slumped during the COVID-19 pandemic. This decision has also been discussed with the relevant Ministries and Institutions under the coordination of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment," said Transportation Ministry Spokesperson Adita Irawati in Jakarta, Friday (26/4).

Although 17 international airports have been designated, airports whose use status as domestic airports can in principle still serve overseas flights for certain purposes temporarily.

This was after receiving a stipulation by the Minister of Transportation in accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Transportation Number PM 40 of 2023 concerning Amendments to the Regulation of the Minister of Transportation Number PM 39 of 2019 concerning the National Airport Order.

"That is for certain activities including state activities; international activities or events; embarkation and debarkation of Hajj; support national economic growth, such as the tourism and trade industry; or disaster management," Adita explained.

Adita detailed 17 airports designated as international airports, namely:
