Eradication Of Online Gambling, Police Claim Handling 1,196 Cases In The 2023 Period
JAKARTA - The National Police continues to eradicate the practice of online gambling in Indonesia. Based on data, 1,196 cases were investigated in the 2023 period."In 2023 there are 1,196 cases that have been handled," said Karo Penmas, Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, to reporters, Thursday, April 25.Then, for the April 2024 period, 792 cases of online gambling have been handled by the National Police both at the Criminal Investigation Unit and the Regional Police.Meanwhile, regarding the number of suspects, Trunoyudo said there were around 1,987 people named online gambling suspects in the 2023 period."Meanwhile, in 2024 until this month, the initial period is still in progress, the National Police has managed to secure 1,158 suspects," he said.Despite the number of disclosures of cases and the number of suspects, the National Police is said to be committed to continuing to eradicate online gambling practices. This is in accordance with the orders of the National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, so that all ranks of the Bhayangkara Corps carry out law enforcement on non-criminal crimes that disrupt public security."The National Police Chief always gives instructions regarding the implementation of the main duties and roles of the National Police in the law enforcement process to realize the maintenance of public order, especially related to gambling cases," said Trunoyudo.Meanwhile, President Joko Widodo or Jokowi decided to form a Special Task Force or an online gambling eradication Task Force.
Jokowi's decision to form the task force was conveyed by the Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi.The task force is said to consist of several ministries and institutions such as the National Police, the Attorney General's Office, OJK, PPTK, and others.
