Volkswagen Releases ID Concept. Code 01, Autonomous Electric SUV Owned By Cabinet Cleaning Robot

JAKARTA - Ahead of his Beijing Auto Show debut, Volkswagen introduced an ID concept car. Code 01, a futuristic electric SUV that is ready to compete in China's electric car market.

This concept car not only offers stunning designs, but is also designed for the future with Level 4 (L4) autonomous driving technology. This means that ID. Code 01 is able to drive automatically without the need for a driver under certain conditions.

Cool again, this car is equipped with a unique feature in the form of a cabin cleaning robot called LUPO. Yes, similar to the Xiaomi Mi Robot vacuum cleaner robot, but the LUPO is smaller in size and specifically created to clean the interior of the car. When Hygiene mode is activated, LUPO will get out of its place and start cleaning and disinfecting the cabin surface with UV rays.

Reporting from CarNewsChina, April 24, Volkswagen CEO Thomas Sch Wayfer stated ID. Code 01 is an early picture of Volkswagen's future in China. This car carries a new design, advanced technology standards, and a specially tailored holistist driving experience to China's consumer needs and desires.

ID. Code 01 design is thick with a sporty aura, reminiscent of Gran Turismo cars. And this car will be part of the ID family. Volkswagen which is planned to have a total of 16 models by 2023.

Interestingly, the platform used to produce ID. Code 01 will change. Currently, Volkswagen is using the MEB platform for their ID electric car. However, as previously reported by VOI, in the future they will switch to a new platform developed with Xpeng, an electric car startup from China.

This collaboration will give birth to electric cars designed with Volkswagen and Xpeng which are scheduled to launch in 2026.

Not only that, but Volkswagen China Technology Company (VCTC) is also developing a special platform for the Chinese market, namely CMP (China Main Plattform). At least four additional entry-level electric models will be built using the CMP platform starting in 2026.
