Huawei Invites Developers To Create Native Apps For HarmonyOS

JAKARTA - The technology company Huawei continues to encourage developers to jointly create various native apps for Huawei's mobile operating system, namely HarmonyOS.

"We invite all developers and app owners in China to immediately join our native apps HarmonyOS ecosystem," Huawei Chairman Eric Xu said in a statement received on Tuesday, April 23.

HarmonyOS is Huawei's latest generation operating system that can operate on various smart devices, such as smartphones, wearable devices, tablets, and smart TVs.

By the end of 2023, HarmonyOS has implemented more than 800 million devices. According to Counterpoint Research, the global share of HarmonyOS markets has reached 4 percent. Meanwhile, in China, its market share has surpassed 16 percent in Q4 2023.

Huawei has also made substantial progress in developing the HarmonyOS ecosystem, by creating more than 4,000 applications, out of 5,000 targeted applications. Xu revealed that Huawei is targeting to have at least one million configured applications for its ecosystem.

Previously, our main focus was to adapt HarmonyOS for various types of devices. But for applications, they are still operating in the Android ecosystem," explained Xu.

Furthermore, Xu emphasized that one of the main goals they want to achieve in 2024 is to build a native apps HarmonyOS ecosystem.

"This is a huge mission. However, we have received broad support from the industry and many app developers. After we have these first 5,000 Android apps and thousands of other apps running on HarmonyOS, we will have the real HarmonyOS transformed into the third mobile operating system for the world, apart from Apple iOS and Google Android," he concluded.
