Around 500 LS 500 Lexus Units Affected By Recall Due To Front Seat Problems

JAKARTA - Bad news came from the Lexus brand. The premium brand under Toyota must start the recall program on the LS 500 model in the United States (US).

According to a Carscoops report, Tuesday, April 23, the recall program was caused by an error in the 10-way power-adjustable seat feature of the front passenger, causing the air bag not to expand properly.

It was reported that 509 vehicles were affected by this problem, including LS 500 output 2018-2021 and LS 500 Hybrid 2018-2020 which also has the Executive Package option, where the front seat feature has a 10-way power-adjustable seat system.

The front seat has the Occupant Classification System (OCS) which provides input to the Supplemental Restrant System to determine the best way to develop the air bag of passengers ahead.

The root of this problem has been found that a stopper and a seating frame near the OCS sensor may have been installed in such a way that it caused a disturbance that caused the wrong detection of passenger cargo.

Thus, the airbag of the front passenger has the potential not to expand as should when an accident occurs so as to increase the risk of injury to death.

Lexus estimates that around 7 percent of all vehicles affected will experience this problem. The manufacturer will inform dealers and distributors starting April 17 and to vehicle owners between June 2 June June 16, 2024.

If a disturbance is found between the seating frame and the stopper, the stopper will be tuned and the OCS will be re-calibrated for free. Toyota will also reimburse the owner who has previously paid to solve the problem.
