Tesla's Turbulence In April: Employee Layoffs, Cancel Cheap Electric Cars, Latest Cut Prices For Model Y, X, And S

JAKARTA - Not only layoffs 10 percent of employees, cancel cheap electric cars, Tesla has just cut the selling price of Model Y, Model X, and Model S cars in the United States (US) by 2,000 US dollars (around Rp. 32.5 million) per unit.

The price cuts came after Elon Musk's electric car maker (EV) failed to meet analysts' expectations in terms of vehicle shipments in the first quarter.

Reported by the Tesla website, Monday, April 23, the price of the basic variant Model Y is now 42,990 US dollars (around Rp. 697 million), while the Long Range and Performance variants are priced at 47,990 US dollars (around Rp. 778 million) and 51,490 US dollars (around Rp. 835 million), respectively.

In addition, for Model S, the basic variant is pegged at 72,990 US dollars (around Rp1.1 billion) and the Plaid variant costs 87,990 US dollars (around Rp1.4 billion). While the basic variant of Model X is 77,990 US dollars (around Rp1.2 billion) and the Plaid variant costs 92,900 US dollars (around Rp1.5 billion).

In addition to price cuts, reported by Reuters on April 21, Tesla North America also announced the termination of the referral program starting April 30. This referral program allows buyers to get additional discounts through recommendations from Tesla customers, which are commonly used by traditional car manufacturers to increase sales.

Not only that, for those who want cheap electric cars from Tesla, it turns out to be just a figment. Tesla in early April had canceled its promised low-cost car production plan, with an estimated price of 25,000 US dollars (around Rp. 400 million). This car is expected to drive Tesla's growth in the global market to compete with electric cars from China.
