Arrogant On The Road Using Military Service Plates Only Beaters
JAKARTA Cases of arrogant car drivers on the streets are repeated again. Military plates are still considered as magic plates that allow motorists to do things on the streets arbitrarily. Is that true?
On April 12, 2024, it went viral on social media showing a Toyota Fortuner car driver with military service plates arrogant towards other road users on the Cikampek Toll Road. The incident started when a black Fortuner car he was driving grazed a white car.
The two of them were involved in an argument and the white car driver asked for their identity because they used the military service number 84337-00. He initially claimed to be a member of the TNI, but then changed by saying he had an older brother, a general named Tonny Abraham.

After being investigated, it turned out that the plate belonged to Young Marshal TNI Asep Adang Supriyadi. However, this professor at the Defense University said his official car was not Fortuner but Pajero Sport. He also reported this case to Polda Metro Jaya.
The man with the initials PWGA was finally arrested at his residence in the Cempaka Putih area, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (16/4/2024). After being investigated, PWGA turned out to be not a member of the military, but a civil society with the potential as an entrepreneur. He admitted that he used the TNI military plate to avoid odd-even.
Incidents of arrogant riders on the highway because they feel they are wearing magic number plates have occurred very often. Wearing certain attributes when driving, for example, military plates are considered to increase a person's confidence on the highway. So it is not uncommon for motorists to be arrogant because of the magic plate they use.
This was revealed by an instructor from the Road Safety & Founder of Jakarta Defensive Driving Consulting (JDDC) Jusri Pulubuhu. He said that the many cases of arrogant drivers were motivated by the feelings of more than fellow road users.
He gave an example, arrogant drivers usually have an influence in an organization or drive larger vehicles, or because vehicles driven are more expensive and luxurious.
When using certain attributes, it tends to create more confidence when in public or in public spaces. Or when carrying weapons, walking in groups, exclusion arises, courage arises. Psychologically, it takes that person to perform the persecution of power, abuse of authority or power rather than his background, "explained Jusri, confiscated by Kompas.
In line with Jusri, the Training Director of Safety Defensive Consultant Indonesia Sony Susmana said there were two things that made drivers easily emotional and arrogant on the streets, namely character and lack of safety knowledge.
Strong, rigid, or selfish character arises from an environment that is built without prioritizing togetherness, brotherhood, sharing, and helping. So that it grows into a person who does not want to lose," he said.
The use of special number plates, gadgets, stickers, and so on is able to make drivers have the potential to be able to carry out acts of arrogance. They feel they have more power and need more rights on the road, even though in the eyes of the law it's the same, right, "explained Sony.
Meeting arrogant road users can be experienced by anyone, anywhere, and anytime. Meetings with arrogant motorists cannot be avoided, but the most important thing according to Sony is not to be provoked or ignore arrogant road users.
People who are arrogant are people who have problems, if they don't have problems, they are not arrogant. Well, if we serve them, it means we are also people with problems. This means that we have to avoid them," said Sony.
It is common knowledge that many civilians use the TNI/Polri service number plate. And it is not uncommon for the number plate to turn out to be fake. There are various ways to get it, one of which is buying online.
Transportation and legal issues observer Budiyanto explained that the proliferation of military plates used by civilians, even many of whom were fake, showed weak supervision in institutions that have the authority to issue official registration plates.
The former Head of Sub-Directorate for Gakkum Ditlantas Polda Metro Jaya said there were several allegations where the civil servants got the service plates.
