Britain Sanctions Iranian Military Leaders After Attack On Israel From Asset Freeze To Block

JAKARTA - Britain sanctioned Iranian military figures after the attack on Israel last weekend.

British sanctions include asset freezes and travel bans, targeting Iranian defense ministers and other military figures and organizations including the General Staff of the Armed Forces and Navy of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Iran last weekend launched drones and fired missiles at Israel in retaliation for a April 1 attack on its embassy compound in Damascus.

The attack has increased the risk of further escalation in the region, so major countries are working hard to prevent a wider conflict in the Middle East.

Britain said its actions, announced at a meeting of G7 group state ministers in Italy, aimed at limiting Iran's ability to destabilize the region.

"The Iranian regime's attack on Israel is a reckless and dangerous escalation measure," British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said in a statement.

Today we have sanctioned the military leaders and Iranian forces responsible for the weekend's attack.

British sanctions, totaling 13 sanctions, are also targeting individuals described as key actors in Iran's drone and missile industry.
