Soekarno Hatta Airport Becomes The Busiest In The World In April 2024
JAKARTA - Soekarno-Hatta Airport (Soetta) became the busiest airport in Southeast Asia in April 2024 based on OAG Aviation World Limited data, an intelligence travel agency based in London, England.
PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II) as the manager of Soetta Airport noted that the capacity of the flight seats at the airport in April 2024 reached 3.34 million seats or the most compared to other airports in Southeast Asia.
AP II Vice President Corporate Communication Cin Asmoro in his statement in Jakarta, Wednesday, April 17, said that the Eid 2024 transportation period which took place on April 3-18 also encouraged Soetta Airport as the busiest in Southeast Asia.
"The Lebaran transportation period for 16 days or on April 3-18 also encourages Soekarno-Hatta Airport to become the busiest in Southeast Asia. AP II as the airport operator together with airlines and fully supported by regulators is able to meet the high demand that exists during the peak season for Eid transportation," said Cin, as reported by Antara.
Meanwhile, according to OAG, the list of the busiest airports in second and third places in April 2024, namely Changi Airport (Singapore) and Suvarnabhumi Airport (Thailand).
Executive General Manager of Soetta Airport Dwi Ananda explained that on Eid 2024 transportation on D-7 to D+4 (April 3-15), the number of passenger movements at Soetta Airport reached 2.02 million people, an increase of 7 percent compared to the same period in 2023 of 1.88 million people.
On D-7 to D+4, the airline has also operated 994 additional flights at Soetta Airport.
"Good collaboration among all stakeholders makes operations and services maintained amidst high flight traffic. Soekarno-Hatta Airport operates 24 hours daily and ensures the availability of flight time slots for airlines to be able to serve public air travel during the Lebaran transportation period. In total, 994 extra flights have been operated and will continue to grow again," said Dwi.
During Eid 2024 to D+4 transportation, the busiest destinations from Soetta Airport were to Denpasar with 336,610 passengers, Medan with 251,699 passengers, Surabaya 197,731 people, Makassar 170,596 people, and Padang 166,218 people.
Dwi stated that the readiness of infrastructure and facilities on the air side and land side played a significant role in ensuring the smooth running of flights and services to airplane passengers.

Meanwhile, flight services at Soekarno-Hatta Airport are currently being carried out through three passenger terminals, namely Terminal 1, Terminal 2, and Terminal 3. All terminals are connected to the skytrain to facilitate the mobility of airport visitors and airplane passengers.
Meanwhile, the accessibility of Soetta Airport is also strengthened by various modes of public transportation including airport trains.
In 2024, OAG also named Soetta Airport the most recovered airport from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Asia Pacific region, winning a gold medal in the Most Recovered Airport category in Asia-Pacific (ASPAC) Aviation Network Champions which took place in March 2024.
