What Is The 'Operation True Promose' Intensified By Iran To Israel? A Legitimate Revenge Mission
YOGYAKARTA - Conflicts in the Middle East are heating up again after Iran launched drones and missiles on Israel. Iran called the airstrike an "Operation True Promise". This operation was launched in retaliation for an Israeli attack on the Iranian Consulate in Damascus, Syria on April 1, 2024.
Iran bombarded Israeli territory with more than 300 drones and missiles on Saturday (13/4) night. The Israeli military base that was targeted for the attack was also affected. Israel said it would respond to the action from Iran.
The warming up of Iran-Israel shocked the world's public behind the prolonged conflict involving Palestine. This event became the first direct shot to erupt since Iran and Israel became hostile after the 1979 Islamic Revolution. So what is Operation True Promise launched by Iran?
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the April 13, 2024 attack was under the name Operation True Promise. Reporting from Al Jazeera, the name of this operation is used as an effort by Iranian state leaders in keeping their promise to punish those who attack Islamic countries, including Israel or other countries.
The operation launched by Iran is an act of retaliation for the Israeli attack on the Iranian Consulate in Dasmahus, Syria. The attack, which was carried out on April 1, 2024, resulted in the Iranian Consulate building being destroyed. The tense tragedy also claimed 11 lives.
The uncivilized action from Israel caused the death toll of nine ethnic residents, two Syrians, and one Lebanese citizen. Two of the lives that died were commanders of elite troops in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Iran said the revenge attack operation was a "legitimate self-defense" under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter (UN), following an attack on Iran's diplomatic mission in Damascus.
According to the IRGC, Operation True Promise will be carried out in several stages until the requirement for revenge is met. Iran's Defense Minister, Mohammed Reza Ashtiani, reminded countries in the region not to open their territory to Israel.
Iran issued a firm warning against any form of action in favor of Israel carrying out attacks. Before the attack was sent, Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei also made a firm statement in the Eid sermon. He vowed to "punish" the Israeli regime for the "mistake" targeting Iran's diplomatic facilities.
Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Head of the Iranian Armed Forces, also warned Israel not to reverse with other attacks. He also warned the United States against issuing any form of support against attacks from Israel.
Our response would be much bigger than tonight's military action if Israel retaliated against Iran, reported by The Guardian.
The Israeli side responded to the Operation True Promise intensified by Iran some time ago. The Israeli Military Commander, General Herzi Halevi, opened his voice in front of Israeli soldiers who were at the military base targeted by Iran.
"The launch of so many missiles (Iran), cruise missiles and UAVs (drones) to the territory of the State of Israel will be responded to," Halevi said in a speech, according to a statement released by the Israeli military.
