JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that most areas in Indonesia have the potential to experience extreme weather, in the form of heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds, even 21 of which are set to be vigilant.

On the official BMKG website quoted in Jakarta, Thursday, 21 areas with alert status, including Aceh, North Sumatra, Jambi, South Sumatra, Lampung, West Java, Central Java, East Java, DI Yogyakarta, Bali.

In addition, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, Central Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, Maluku, West Papua, and Papua.

Early warning of the impact of rain with moderate to heavy intensity also has the potential to target Bandung, Denpasar, Central Jakarta, Jambi, Semarang, and Ambon.

BMKG predicts the potential for rain accompanied by lightning in Ambon, Mataram, Pangkal Pinang, and Medan in the morning.

In addition, Semarang, Surabaya, Serang, Yogyakarta, Pontianak, Jambi, Gorontalo, are forecasted for light-cloud rain in the morning and evening.

The DKI Jakarta area mostly rains moderately cloudy in the morning to noon, and light-cloud rain with humidity 75-100 percent at night, with temperatures 24-32 degrees Celsius.

Head of BMKG Dwikorita Karnawati revealed the potential for extreme weather that could have an impact on disasters to increase in most areas over the next week, due to intervention in tropical cyclone seeds.

He said three tropical cyclone seeds; Tropical Cyclone seeds 91S, 94S, and 93P were monitored in the vicinity of the southern Indian Ocean Java, Timor Sea, and the Australian Sea showing influence on the southern part of Indonesia.

Based on meteorological analysis that Tropical Cyclone 91S has a maximum wind speed of 30-35 knots (56-65 km/h), air pressure at the center of the system of 994 hPa, movement to the southeast, and opportunities to become a tropical cyclone in the medium-high category.

Tropical Cyclone 94S seeds have a maximum wind speed of 15-20 knots (28-37 km/h), air pressure at the center of the system of 999.9 hPa, movement to the east-southeast, and opportunities to become tropical cyclones.

Tropical Cyclone 93P seeds have a maximum wind speed of 20-25 knots (37-46 km/h), air pressure at the center of the system of 1,003 hPa, movement to the southeast, and opportunities to become tropical cyclones.
