Ahead of the 2024 Eid homecoming season, the government and various related institutions have made a series of preparations to ensure safe and smooth travel. The Ketupat Operation Coordination Meeting chaired by the National Police Chief emphasized his commitment to preparing for Homecoming so that it runs safely and smoothly. Anticipatory steps are also taken by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) by monitoring extreme weather and urging travelers to actively monitor weather information before leaving.
Weather modification technology has also been prepared by BMKG as a preventive measure to deal with potential floods that could disrupt the journey of homecoming travelers. This shows the government's seriousness in anticipating various risks that may occur during the Homecoming season. The government's prediction of the number of homecoming travelers shows a significant increase, reaching 50% compared to the previous year. Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhajir Effendy said the number reached 193 million homecoming travelers.
In order to support smooth travel, the government has also prepared land routes by paying attention to road conditions and capacity. The existence of six functional toll roads in Sumatra and Java that operate at certain hours is expected to reduce congestion and facilitate the flow of homecoming. The government also provides discounts on toll rates. However, the increase in the number of travelers also has a significant economic impact, including increasing demand for various goods and services along with the movement of people.
Indonesian Center of Reform on Economics (CORE) economic researcher Yusuf R Manilet, as reported by Kontan, said that the growth in the money supply or money circulation during Homecoming is predicted to reach around 6%, with a nominal value of around IDR 50 trillion to IDR 60 trillion.
