Police Hunt Four DPOs For Rohingya Ethnic Smuggling To Aceh

The West Aceh Police are hunting for four residents from Aceh who are strongly suspected of being involved in the smuggling of 75 Rohingya ethnic people to the Meulaboh area, the capital of West Aceh Regency.

"We are pursuing the four perpetrators because they were involved as perpetrators of the Rohingya ethnic smuggling to Aceh from Bangladesh," said Head of the West Aceh Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Iptu Fachmi Suciandy, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, April 3.

The four men who have been on the wanted list (DPO) are S (40 years), a resident of Idi Rayeuk District, East Aceh Regency, K (40 years) a resident of Labuhan Haji District, South Aceh Regency.

Then R (40 years old) a resident of Drien Kipal Village, Hand-Hand District, Southwest Aceh Regency, and MK Alias Pak Cik (45 years old), a resident of Lembah Sabil District, West Aceh Daya Regency.

Iptu Fachmi Suciandy said the six perpetrators were suspected of being involved in smuggling ethnic Rohingya imported from Bangladesh with the aim of going to Malaysia, and transiting to the Aceh Province area which was allegedly carried out in mid-March 2024.

The perpetrators picked up dozens of Rohingya ethnic groups using one unit of the Rizky Fisherman's Motorboat in the waters of the Sabang Islands, Aceh Province.

Based on information from a number of suspects who had previously been arrested, said Fachmi Suciandy, dozens of Rohingya ethnic groups from Bangladesh are planned to be landed in the Ujung Raja area, Darul Makmur District, Nagan Raya Regency, Aceh Province.

However, while in the waters of Meulaboh, West Aceh Regency, KM Rizky, the fisherman who was carrying dozens of Rohingya was suspected of having an accident and overturned in the high seas.

Fachmi Suciandy said based on information obtained from HS, one of the suspects who had previously been arrested, the syndicate group would receive a fee from an agent in Malaysia of Rp. 5 million per person, if the Rohingya ethnicity managed to enter Malaysia.

"They (refugees) were deliberately landed in Aceh, then the plan was to be transported by truck to Tanjung Balai, North Sumatra Province, and from Tanjung Balai they would be dispatched to the Tanjung Selangor Malaysia area," said Fachmi Suciandy.
