Ma'ruf Amin Calls Himself Not An Attractive Type Of Vice President

Vice President Ma'ruf Amin said he was not a typical Vice President who was attractive in his work, but prioritized harmonization in the working ways of President Joko Widodo.

This was conveyed by Vice President Ma'ruf in his remarks at the iftar with the Vice Presidential Palace reporters at the Vice President's official residence in Jakarta, Monday, April 1.

"I feel that maybe a lot of people say that I don't take so many roles, for example in ways as Vice President who appears more attractive. I'm not that type," said Vice President Ma'ruf as quoted by ANTARA.

He explained that he was once asked by reporters in Singapore when he was just appointed as Vice President. Ma'ruf Amin was asked what kind of way he would work to accompany President Jokowi.

And I (at that time) took my philosophy, like playing badminton, double pair. Yes, right. How do we maintain harmony with a partner. I like to play badminton, I like to play ball. So I know how good badminton is. How couples put positions, "he explained.

Harmonization of work such as the badminton doubles pair or badminton he applied while assisting President Joko Widodo in the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet.

"If the couple is in front, of course (one) must be behind so that the ball (soft badminton) that is thrown back is (the guard). If he (the pair) is on the right, we have to be on the left. If on the left, we are on the right, so there is no impact," he explained.

"This means that each of them takes a position in accordance with the tasks that are indeed given. I think that's what I take care of, so how the government goes well. Don't let there be misunderstandings, adamisunderstanding, so that there is a conflict between the President and the Vice President," he added.

Ma'ruf Amin emphasized that the goals of the President and Vice President are the same, namely the welfare of the community. And if there are those who are considered less than fulfilling public aspirations, said the Vice President, then the public can convey it through the media and then discuss which one is the best," he said.

The vice president also said that he as a person with a religious background, always tried to follow the steps of the prophet in making improvements, namely making improvements according to his abilities.

"I use a term to make improvements in a more sustainable direction, never stop and never have to be done by myself or by the current government. Improvements must be continued by the next governments," said the vice president.

Thus, said the Vice President, the change of government is a necessity and the leadership relay is part of the pattern of the nation and state.

"And in finding the best (leaders), of course there are differences, and the leader chooses the best way, in order to make alternatives from existing alternatives," he said.
