MUI Bans LDDI For Eid Al-Fitr Prayers In West Papua

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) issued a notification letter not giving permission for the management and members of the Indonesian Islamic Da'wah Institute (LDII) to carry out Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijiri prayers themselves.

The letter issued by the West Papua MUI was numbered A. 061/DP-P. XXXIII/III/2024, regarding the implementation of Eid prayers or Eid for the LDII organization.

"The letter states that based on the decision of the National Working Conference (Mukernas) II MUI in 2022 concerning organizational numbers: 01/Mukernas/-MUI/XII/2022 dated December 9, 2022, the 10th point which explains the status of LDII which is still in the process of being coached by the MUI leadership board," said Secretary of South Sorong MUI (South Sorong), Southwest Papua, Mohammad Rifai Rumalean, in Teminabuan, Monday, April 1, confiscated by Antara.

He explained, based on the MUI circular number A- 1946/DP-MUI/VI/2023 dated June 22, 2023, regarding LDII management and members.

"Regarding the letter, it does not give permission for LDII administrators and members to carry out or determine the location of Eid al-Fitr or Eid prayers," said Rumalean.

MUI hopes that LDII will join other Muslims in places or locations that have been determined by the Islamic Holiday Commemoration Committee (PHBI) in their respective districts/cities and provinces in West Papua and Southwest Papua.

"The LDII members and administrators in Sorsel have not yet been detected. We also invite LDII members or administrators to perform Eid prayers together according to the schedule determined by the PHBI," he said.
