Jenius Survey: Majority Of People Use THR For Shopping

JAKARTA - The results of a survey from Jenius, a digital bank service owned by PT Bank BTPN Tbk, show the occurrence of a shift in the allocation of Holiday Allowance (THR) funds in 2024 compared to last year, with the majority of people choosing to use the funds for Ramadan's needs. Digital Banking Partnership Head of Bank BTPN Febri Rusli said that in 2023 the majority of digital literate people allocated their THR to save (41 percent). While as many as 40 percent of respondents chose to use THR for spending on Ramadan needs and 19 percent of respondents chose to invest their THR. Now (in 2024), THR allocation for Ramadan spending rose 12 percent to 52 percent. Meanwhile, the portion of saving and investing each reached 29 percent and 19 percent, Febri said in his statement, quoted from Antara, Thursday, March 28.Jenius noted, the change in how to manage the THR was also in line with the recognition of 58 percent of respondents who felt that their spending could potentially increase in Ramadan this year. The public allocates spending for a number of purposes such as buying new clothes (43 percent), going home (30 percent), zakat and alms (30 percent), buying sahur and breaking fasting food (29 percent), as well as if the iftar event together (29 percent). In addition to the needs of Ramadan, notes Jenius, the public also uses their THR to pay off installments or debts, business capital, vacations, house renovations, to buying gadgets or electronic goods.

For information, the survey titled Jenius Study: The behavior of the Savvy Digital Society during Ramadan & Ahead of Eid Al-Fitr 2024 involved 233 respondents aged 17-40 years from various Jabodetabek and non-Jabodetabek areas. The survey was conducted on February 28-March 18, 2024. The Jenius survey also shows that people anticipate extra needs by choosing loan options. Compared to 2023, the number of people who choose loan options increased by 13 percent. Jenius noted that 35 percent of respondents planned to take loans during Ramadan 2024 for various purposes, such as to welcome Eid (60 percent), business capital (46 percent), and home renovation (18 percent).
