Chosen To Host The 10th WWF, Special Staff Of The Minister Of PUPR: We Are Fighting Against Italy

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) said that the choice of Indonesia to host the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) in 2024 was not easy.

Because, when determining the host for the implementation of the world water forum, Indonesia must face one of the countries from the European continent.

"So, we were actually lucky in Senegal in 2022 that we fought to beat Italy and were chosen to host," said Special Staff to the Minister of PUPR for Water Resources Firdaus Ali at the Road to 10th World Water Forum Press Conference: "Preparation for Successful Implementation" online, Thursday, March 28.

Firdaus said that Indonesia only had about two years of preparation to organize this international activity.

"And we only have two years compared to the existing forums, namely they get 3 years and in a pandemic situation it's not over yet," he said.

He considered that WWF was the first forum in history to be held after the COVID-19 pandemic and the organization of this event was also in line with world conditions that were in a situation facing climate change.

"This event (is held) is also when the world is in a very concerned situation associated with the impact of climate change that triggers hydrometeorological disasters everywhere and also the global economic situation that has not yet recovered after the COVID-19 pandemic," he said.

In addition, said Firdaus, the United Nations or United Nations has also announced that the world's population has now reached 8 billion. Thus, Indonesia as the host is challenged to present the largest forum in history.

"And once again I say Indonesia will be the third country in Asia to host after South Korea and Japan, as well as in the first Southeast Asia (ASEAN)," he added.

For your information, the World Water Council as a world institution that deals with water issues has chosen Indonesia as the host of the 10th World Water Forum in 2024.

This activity will take place at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC), Nusa Dua, Bali, on May 18-25, 2024.

Later, there will be three discussions in the 10th World Water Forum, namely three topics on thematic, political and regional issues.

In the thematic topic, six subthemes have been determined, namely Water Security and Prosperity, Water for Humans and Nature, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, Governance, Cooperation, and Hydro-diplomacy Sustainable Water Finance, Knowledge and Innovation.

Next, regional topics are divided into four regions, namely the Mediterranean, Asia Pacific, Africa and America. Discussions are needed at the regional level, because each region has different uniqueness and challenges about water.

Then, on political topics it is divided into meetings at the level of heads of state, ministers, parliament, local governments and river regional authorities.

The implementation of the 10th World Water Forum in Bali in May is a momentum to increase cooperation for global water management.

By bringing hope that the World Water Forum will become a place for various stakeholders from various countries to share experiences and innovation in responding to a number of water management challenges globally.
