Tens Of Thousands Of Two Of India's Best-selling Cars Withdrawn Again, The Problem?

JAKARTA - Maruti Suzuki announced the recall or recall of more than 16,000 thousand units of popular hatchback models, namely Wagon R and Baleno for the local market (India).

Quoting from the Times of India, Tuesday, March 26, more details were 11,851 at Baleno and 4,190 units of Wagon R affected by the recall.

The recall according to the manufacturer is due to potential problems with the fuel pump motor component which can cause the engine to turn off or the vehicle does not want to turn on.

This recall has an impact on Baleno and Wagon R units produced between July 30, 2019, and November 1, 2019. The manufacturer has assured owners that it will proactively contact customers to schedule free checks and replacement of damaged parts.

Maruti Suzuki has not announced a specific method to notify owners other than direct contacts. But there is a way to check if the vehicle chassis number is included in the affected range by entering the web-page vehicle chassis number of service campaigns. The website will display a message showing whether the car is included in the recall.

As is known, Wagon R and Baleno are the two best-selling passenger vehicles in India. In fact, in February 2024, MSIL sold 19,412 units of Wagon R, recording an impressive 15 percent growth of YoY or year-on-year compared to 16,889 units sold in the same month last year.

Similarly, Baleno sold 17,517 units, making it India's third best-selling car that month while WagnerR comfortably topped the demand.

Previously, Maruti Suzuki had also announced the recall of 87,000 units of S-Presso and Eeco van.
