The Live Action Film Popeye The Sailor Man Will Soon Be Created
JAKARTA - The Popeye the Sailor Man series will soon be adapted into a live action version. The legendary cartoon previously had a live action adaptation version that aired in 1980, starring Robin Williams.
Then, in 2012 Sony announced a new animated film project by animation creators Dexter's Laboratory and Samurai Jack, Genndy Tartakovsky. However, Sony canceled the project after Tartakovsky decided to leave in 2015.
According to an IGN report, this film project has entered the development stage and is a collaboration between Chernin Entertainment, the production house that works on the film Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) directed by Rupert totaling, as well as the owner of Popeye's intellectual property, King Features.
Quoted from ANTARA, there is not much information disclosed about Popeye's live action film project. However, the film, which reportedly cost a large production fee, will attract Michael Caleo as the scriptwriter.
