PLN Cooperates With China To Conduct Green Energy Development Studies In Sulawesi
PT PLN (Persero) through PLN Indonesia Power Sub Holding collaborates with China Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd (CEEC) to conduct a study on the development of a large-scale green energy project in Sulawesi.
PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo in an official statement in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Monday, March 25, explained that as a key player in the energy transition agenda in the country, PLN continues to establish synergies with national and global partners to accelerate the massive use of new and renewable energy (EBT).
This is also in line with the government's agenda to achieve Net Zero Emissions (NZE) in 2060 or sooner.
"The signing of this collaboration is an important moment considering that in the near future the government and PLN will release a new National Electricity Business Plan (RUKN). There it will be regulated regarding the construction of large-scale EBT generators and green transmission lines connecting islands in the country," Darmawan said at the PLN-CEEC High-Level Business Meeting.
The PLN-CEEC meeting was held in conjunction with the signing of the Joint Development Study Agreement (JDSA) between PLN and China Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd in Jakarta on Thursday, March 21.
Darmawan further revealed, in the latest RUKN design, it was determined that the Indonesian EBT ecosystem would be supported by hydro and geothermal-based generators of 32 Gigawatts (GW) as well as solar and wind-based plants of 28 GW. The development of the green transmission line will play a crucial role in channeling green electricity between islands.
There is a mismatch between the location of hydro and geothermal sources and the load center. For that, we need to connect Sumatra to Java, Kalimantan to Java, East Nusa Tenggara to Java, Kalimantan to Sulawesi, in which there will be a large project to design and develop the green transmission line," continued Darmawan.

Board of Chairman of CEEC Group Song Hailiang said that his party is ready to support the Indonesian government in achieving NZE in 2060 or sooner. In this case, CEEEC is optimistic because it has a long history of EBT development cooperation with PLN.
"Indonesia is an important partner of China in jointly building and contributing to the NZE 2060 target in Indonesia," said Song.
