Police In Gorontalo Turn The Building Into A Mosque

GORONTALO - A policeman in Gorontalo Bripka Suparno Hamzah built an An-Nur Mosque made of bamboo in a location that used to be a gambling place in Molowahu Village, Tibawa District, Gorontalo Regency, Gorontalo Province.

"Because it used to be a gambling and immoral place in this place, by creating this mosque, it could keep it away and eliminate gambling activities," Suparno said as quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, March 24.

He said he built a mosque made of bamboo to become one of the unique attractions for pilgrims to come to worship.

Bripka Suparno revealed that the imams at the mosque were also people who had been gamblers. However, with the construction of the mosque, the community is closer to the power and leaves things that are not commendable.

Suparno explained that he built the mosque in 2019, after previously being a place for children to study.

"However, because many proposals from the community were to be converted into mosques, we built a mosque from the basic materials for this bamboo," he said.

The congregation who came to worship said he came from four villages and two sub-districts, namely Langadai Village, Dungaliyo District, Bongomeme Village, Dungaliyo District, South Isimu Village, Tibawa District, and Molowahu Village, Tibawa District.

Suparno said the mosque often received assistance from outside the region even abroad. Such as the help of making the ablution water place from Saudi Arabia, the assistance of the prayer carpet from Southeast Sulawesi and the loudspeaker from North Sulawesi.

He hopes that the mosque can still be repaired and renovated, because the roof made of rumbia is still leaking frequently.
