KAI Reminds Not To Smoke On Trains, Here Are The Sanctions!

JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) reminded all prospective passengers, especially passengers from the 2024 Eid season, regarding the prohibition of smoking on trains.

KAI's VP of Public Relations Joni Martinus said that KAI had actually issued rules for prohibition of smoking on trains since 2012.

"All train trips are a smokeless journey. They are not allowed to smoke across a series of trains, including in train dining, toilets, or at railroad drills," he said in an official statement, Thursday, March 21.

Furthermore, Joni said the warning against smoking on trains would be made through the announcement of audio and stickers on train walls.

For passengers caught violating the smoking ban, continued Joni, it is considered not to heed the warning and will be lowered at the first opportunity.

"But if in conditions of train travel there are no warnings, passengers caught smoking on the train will be warned by officers," he said.

If the passenger concerned does not heed or continue smoking again, continued Joni, it will be lowered at the first opportunity.

"The rule of no smoking on trains that KAI applies is a derivative of the joint regulation of the Minister of Health and the Minister of Home Affairs regarding guidelines for implementing the area without smoking in 2011 and Law Number 36 of 2009 concerning Health," he said.

For your information, KAI noted that in 2023 there were 115 passengers who were taken down because they were caught smoking on the train. As for March 2024, KAI has deployed 25 passengers who violate smoking rules on trains.

KAI has also provided smoking areas at stations located at points a bit far from the position of general passengers. So those who smoke will be given special space, but the majority of the station's rooms are free from cigarette smoke.
