Your hunger and thirst can be a challenge in maintaining concentration on the streets. And here, the safety of yourself and others is at stake.
Highway Safety Practitioner and Jakarta Founder Defensive Driving Consulting (JDDC) Jusri Pulubuhu, explained that losing focus while driving while fasting is in the cognitive Distraction category. Stress due to hunger stomach can interfere with cognitive abilities and trigger anxiety.
"So there are three groups that can interfere with concentration, first Optical Distraction, then Manual Distraction, and Cognitive Distraction. He added that waiting for breaking time is often the main focus of the driver, so drivers can be in a hurry and lose patience. This can trigger emotions and interfere with concentration. Decreasing cognitive abilities make the driver more easily intimidated and provoked by the situation on the road.
"This can intimidate and provoke him. Finally he feels anxious and people who experience this condition will be disturbed by his concentration because his cognitive abilities have decreased. He will be emotional and impatient," explained Jusri.
According to Jusri, drivers are required to neutralize their thoughts and worries before traveling long such as driving while fasting to safety from arriving at their destination.
"The driver must leave all the problems that bother him and he must be mentally healthy," Jusri concluded.
