Toyota's Future View In Indonesia And Commitment In Environmentally Friendly Vehicles
JAKARTA - Various choices of environmentally friendly vehicles in Indonesia are getting wider, with various manufacturers including PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) having long-term plans to enter this segment. TAM has introduced various lineup of environmentally friendly vehicles and recorded impressive sales achievements, such as Kijang Innova Zenix HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) which leads the sales of xEV Toyota with a total distribution from factory to dealer of 27,705 units in 2023, followed by Yaris Cross HEV (5,476 units) and Corolla Cross HEV (1,217 units).
However, when talking about environmentally friendly vehicles, it's not just about electric cars completely. The xEV electrification concept also includes hybrid cars and plug-in hybrids. Looking at these data and the increasing trend of environmentally friendly vehicle models from various manufacturers, the next step for Toyota in Indonesia is an interesting question.
"At Toyota Indonesia, we always prioritize and provide the best technology from the BEV and PHEV and HEV categories, so that people have choices that suit their needs," said Henry Tanot, Vice President of PT TAM, during breaking the fast with media crews in Jakarta on Tuesday, March 19.

Furthermore, Tanot revealed that the direction taken for the Indonesian market is in line with the global direction, where principals are committed to reducing vehicle emissions by 90 percent or more. Global principals have also set plans to introduce 30 new models by 2030, opening up opportunities to bring these new models to Indonesia.
"In the next two years, we can expect the presence of new models such as BEV, PHEV, and HEV in Indonesia," he added.
Unfortunately, Tanot did not provide further details regarding the launch time and what models would be introduced in Indonesia.
