BMKG Predicts Potential Extreme Weather To Occur During Lebaran Homecoming
JAKARTA - Deputy for Meteorology, Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Guswanto said extreme weather has the potential to occur during the 2024 Eid homecoming flow.
Extreme weather marked by sudden weather changes is predicted to occur, especially in Java on April 5 to 11, 2024, which coincides with the flow of Eid homecoming.
"For extreme weather, we predict that from April 5 to 11, 2024, it will still have moderate to heavy rain," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, March 18.
However, Guswanto said that on April 12 and after that, extreme weather activity is predicted to decrease to light rain.
This, he explained, was influenced by Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO) activities that affected the Inter-Tropic Convergence Area (DKAT), tropical cyclone seeds, and tropical cyclone Megan.

BMKG will implement Weather Modification Technology (TMC), in order to minimize the impacts that will be caused by extreme weather, such as floods in Semarang and Demak, Central Java, which are one of the routes for Eid homecoming.
"Currently, weather modification technology has been carried out and encouraged by PUPR friends to tighten river embankments so that they don't break down again," he said.
