BNPB: The Closing Of The Wulan Demak River Embankment Which Is Broken Is Estimated For A Week

DEMAK - Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Lt. Gen. Suharyanto stated that based on information from the Pemali Juana Regional Center (BBWS) delivered through the Acting Regent of Kudus M. Hasan Chabibie, the closure of the left embankment of the Wulan River takes about five days or no later than a week.

Met after reviewing the location of the breakdown of the left embankment of the Wulan River in Dukuh Norowito, Ketanjung Village, Karanganyar District, Demak Regency, BNPB said the location of the broken itik of the embankment was the same as a month ago.

It's just that, he said, because the water discharge is quite high, the affected area is wider.

Meanwhile, to reduce flood inundation, a water suction pump engine will be prepared.

BNPB will also create a joint post and deploy echelon one officials, to ensure that refugees can really meet their needs.

"The long-term handling will coordinate with the Ministry of PUPR, that the embankment needs to be strengthened with strong materials. Why is it broken again because the embankment is not yet hard, the weather rains heavily, so it breaks again," he said.

BNPB also handed over assistance to each district/city in Central Java that experienced a similar disaster.

The Regent of Demak Eisti'anah who also welcomed the arrival of a group of BNPB heads revealed that BNPB will connect with the Ministry of PUPR so that the left embankment of the Wulan River will be handled soon.

"If you look at the damage to the embankment, it is smaller than the first incident in February 2024. So we hope to handle it more quickly," he said.

He hopes that according to the promise from the Ministry of PUPR, it can be closed within two days to be realized, so that the flood can recede soon and residents can return to their respective homes.
