When Will Gran Max In Indonesia Use Airbag? This Is Daihatsu's Answer

JAKARTA - Having been present since 2007, Daihatsu Gran Max offers a variety of commercial needs at affordable prices for business actors. This car comes with offering pickup, blind van, and mini bus variants.

Daihatsu Gran Max also achieved success by successfully selling 700,000 units for more than a decade, this car is one of the several models affected by the hit-test scandal carried out by manufacturers in Japan.

Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism (MLIT) said in testing the vehicle found that the airbag on Gran Max could not expand on time, which should have come out when the sensor detected the collision. Thus, this threatens the safety of users and passengers.

Unlike Japan, this model does not use airbags for the Indonesian market. Thus, this raises the question of when Gran Max will be equipped by this device.

Answering that question, Marketing & Corporate Planning and Communications Director of PT Astra Daihatsu Motor Sri Agung Handayani, said that this commercial car was presented in accordance with the demands of consumers or business actors and airbags that have not been needed until now.

"Actually, we want to present it, but it must be in accordance with consumer demand. Because this is a business retail, now the needs such as power steering, power windows, and air conditioning are only met," said Agung during the opening ceremony together with the media in Menteng, Thursday, March 14.

Nevertheless, Agung also added, his party will present an airbag to Gran Max based on consumer demand in the future.

"Consumers choose Gran Max because it is affordable, fuel efficiency, and easy to care for. If later it will be given airbags, we will report again," concluded Agung.
