The Minister Of Communication And Information Encourages The Spread Of Inclusive Narratives To Prevent Polarization In The Community After The 2024 General Election

JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi encourages the spread of inclusive narratives to prevent potential polarization in the community after the 2024 General Election (Pemilu).

"So inclusive narratives are needed to involve all levels of society, without questioning certain backgrounds or groups," he said in a press release, quoted from Antara, Saturday, March 16.

This was said by Budi Arie after attending the National Editor's Meeting on Issues and Developments after the 2024 General Election, at the Office of the Public Broadcasting Institute for Television of the Republic of Indonesia, Central Jakarta, Thursday, March 14.

He assessed that the circulation of exclusive and provocative narratives could trigger divisions in the midst of the diversity of the Indonesian people.

For this reason, Budi Arie encourages the mass media to develop a counter narrative against the threat of intolerance that is full of political interests.

"This is important to do, so that it is not defined the formation of a future government from the results of fraudulent elections," he said.

The Director General of Information and Communication of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, Usman Kansong, added that currently there is a narrative that has the potential to trigger polarization because information regarding elections is not fully presented.

According to him, sometimes there are still many media that often make incomplete statements in the presentation of the contents of the news.

Regarding the recapitulation of the voting results, Usman assessed that the General Election Commission (KPU) had carried out according to the rules.

In fact, the process is carried out openly so that people can see the results firsthand through YouTube shows.

"People don't need to come to the KPU, because it has been broadcasted on YouTube live. So, we received an explanation that the KPU was very transparent in the process of calculating the votes for the election. I think the election fraud is not in the process of calculating votes," he said.

Therefore, Usman invites all parties to encourage reconciliation, especially among political elites such as legislative candidates.

This reconciliation took place among legislative candidates who felt their voices were stolen by others. I think it can be found the best solution. As if there are rules. So, let's just go back to the rules," he concluded.
