Discussing The DKJ Bill At The DPR Baleg, The DPD Asks For A Betawi Cultural Indigenous Institution In Jakarta
JAKARTA - Member of the DPD from DKI Jakarta, Sylviana Murni, assessed the need for a clear legal umbrella for Betawi traditional and cultural institutions in the Draft Law (RUU) of the Special Region of Jakarta (DKJ).
This was conveyed by Sylviana in a meeting with the Legislation Body (Baleg) of the DPR and the government at the parliament complex, Senayan, Jakarta.
The DKI senator appreciated the Legislative Council of the Republic of Indonesia for including the issue of cultural preservation in the discussion of the DKJ Bill.
Sylviana assessed that special attention to Betawi culture needs to be taken seriously. He also asked the DKJ Bill to form a Special Institute for Betawi Customs and Culture.
"The Betawi traditional and cultural institutions need to get a clear nomenclature and duties and authority in this law. I appreciate the baleg for listing this," said Sylviana, Friday, March 15.
The None Jakarta in 1981 also proposed the name "Majelis Kaum Betawi" as the name of the institution. The rest, the former cawagub of DKI Jakarta, handed over the issue of DK Jakarta to the government and the DPR.
"The DPD proposes that a traditional institution called the Betawi Council. Later we can think about more precise words if there are better proposals," said Sylvi.

Sylvi also suggested that there must be Betawi figures who participate in the Jakarta regional head election (Pilkada), whether a candidate for governor or deputy governor.
"What if we continue to collaborate democratically but on the one hand we are fighting for the Betawi people who own Jakarta. I see, Papua has OAP (Indigenous Papuans) and there is even hope that I'm not wrong, there are 14 members of the DPR who are obliged to OAP," said Sylviana.
"Well, if for example it is appointed, but all parties that appoint a partner to fight for the Pilkada have a 20-percent female quota obligation. But this is mandatory, the deputy governor, the governor, it must be from the Betawi element," he continued.
