Due To Bad Weather, Situbondo-Madura-Lembar Ship Crossing Activities Stopped
SitUBONDO - Situbondo Ferry Port, East Java, is temporarily closed for crossing activity from Situbondo-Madura and Situbondo-Lembar after receiving a bad weather warning from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG). The Coordinator of the Janger Ferry Port Service Unit, Situbondo, at the Regional Transportation Management Center (BPTD) of the XI Region of East Java Province, Eko Rochman, said that according to a circular letter from BMKG since last Wednesday afternoon the ferry port from Situbondo to several islands in Madura and Situbondo to Lembar (West Nusa Tenggara/NTB) was temporarily closed due to bad weather. "It is true that the temporary closure of crossing activity since Wednesday afternoon. Based on notification from the BMKG bad weather in the Madura islands is in the red zone and even the wave height is two meters to three meters," said Eko as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, March 14. The crossing activity from Situbondo to Lembar (NTB), according to him, was also temporarily closed or shipping activity was delayed because the wind speed to West Nusa Tenggara was more than 30 knots and the waves reached three meters. Therefore, he continued, the temporary closure of the ferry port from Situbondo to several islands in Sumenep Regency (Madura) and Lembar (NTB) destinations to avoid unwanted things, given the weather estimated until Friday.

"So, we are waiting for further information from the BMKG. The information we received was bad, possibly two days or until tomorrow Friday," he said. Eko added that ferry shipping activities from Lembar (NTB) and from several Madura islands, were also postponed.
