Extreme Weather, BMKG Reminds Rob Floods Threaten NTT Waters Until March 16

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reminded coastal communities to be aware of the threat of coastal flooding (rob) due to extreme weather in four waters of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

"Be vigilant and alert, especially during the maximum tide phase," said Tenau Maritime Meteorological Station Head Yandri Tungga in Kupang, quoted by ANTARA Wednesday, March 13.

The four areas in question are the north coast of Flores Island-Alor, the coast of Sabu-Raijua Island, the coast of Sumba Island, and the coast of Timor-Rote Island.

Yandri said the high waves and tidal flooding were caused by an increase in the intensity of rainfall and strong winds due to the active dynamics of the current atmosphere.

Sea waves with moderate to high categories as well as tidal waves and tidal flooding are predicted to last until March 16, 2024.

With this early warning, Yandri hopes that people who live in coastal areas, especially in areas with the opportunity for tidal waves and tidal flooding to be alert.

He reminded shipping service owners to pay attention to safety risks while sailing.

He also conveyed the same appeal to fishermen to secure the ship so that it is not hit by tidal waves and tidal floods that cause damage and losses.

"Those who travel by ship to pay attention to BMKG information," Yandri advised.

A number of registered areas have been affected by tidal flooding due to extreme weather in the past few days.

For the Kupang City area, tidal flooding hit the Oesapa area, Kelapa Lima, and Lai-Lai Besi Kopan (LLBK) beaches.

Sea water rose to the highway, also destroying wave resistance.
